Emirates and Swiss posts plan tie-up
Officials from Emirates Post and GATS UK, a subsidiary of Swiss Post, discussed yesterday cooperation between the two postal authorities and the shared use of their facilities.
Abdullah Ibrahim Al Daboos, the Director General of Emirates Post, and Geoff Formstone, Managing Director of GATS UK discussed in Dubai ways of using the new Emirates Post International Transit Hub at Dubai Airport.
Al Daboos said the Global Alliance of Transportation Systems (GATS) is a significant operator in the world distribution business and Emirates Post will offer all possible means to improve cooperation between the two bodies.
“GATS UK is involved with the consolidation and re-distribution of international mail consignments on behalf of postal administrations,” he said.
Explaining the prospective business operation, Al Daboos said: “The interest expressed by GATS is very welcome and is a vindication of the work carried out to establish the Emirates Post facility. We are ahead of schedule in the expansion of the hub facility.”
The British Post Office already sends their GCC mail via Dubai and we are in the closing stages of negotiations with several other postal administrations including the U.S. and Germany.
The addition of GATS is a further boost for the Emirates Post’s aim of establishing Dubai as a first choice location for international mail logistics, said Daboos.
After visiting the airport facility Formstone said: “The Emirates Post Transit Hub is a well-run facility and is just what we are looking for to expand our operations between Europe, the Middle East and Far East. Geographically, he said the facility occupies a pivotal position that has excellent air transport connections.”
He added: “In view of the pro-active approach of Emirates Post, I am sure that cooperation between GATS UK and Emirates Post will lead to mutual benefits.”
Emirates Post International Transit Hub at Dubai Airport is handling pick-up and drop-off postal transactions for the neighbouring countries.
With well-equipped, fully computerised systems and automated machines, Emirates Post Transit Hub is successfully functioning in registering the incoming and outgoing items in addition to generating outgoing parcel documents.
It facilitates cost-effective operations and saves time for collaborate postal corporations.
Emirates Post and GATS intend to co-sign a memorandum of understanding in the next few days and to commence transit operations for GATS traffic in a matter of weeks.
