An Post Chairman resigns
Christoph Mueller has stepped down as Chairman of An Post, to concentrate on his new role at Malaysia Airlines. According to an official statement issued by the Republic of Ireland’s Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Mueller “asked to be released from his duties as Chairman after his appointment as CEO of Malaysia Airlines was brought forward to 1st May”.
The statement added: “The Public Appointments Service (PAS) will advertise for a replacement shortly. The appointment will be conducted in accordance with the ‘Guidelines for appointments to State Boards,’ which was published by the Government in November 2014.”
Mueller took over as chief executive of Malaysia Airlines last week, after leaving Aer Lingus in February.
Mueller has also stepped down from his role as a board member of Tourism Ireland in order to concentrate on his new position at Malaysia Airlines.
An Post recently announced that it had returned to the black last year, thanks to cost-cutting efforts and growth in its parcels business.
The state-owned national postal service said it turned around the EUR 11.4m loss seen in 2013 into a EUR 5.9m profit for the 2014 year.
