Pinterest launches “Buyable Pins”
Hot on the heels of Google’s announcement that it will be adding a Buy button to its search results, Pinterest has revealed that it will be introducing “buyable Pins” in “a few weeks” that will enable users to purchase products from within the app. In a statement posted on its blog on Tuesday (2 June) , Pinterest said: “If you’re in the U.S., you’ll see buyable Pins on your iPhone or iPad in a few weeks. If you’re on Android or using your desktop, you’ll see them in future releases.”
Products available for purchase will have a blue “Buy it” button next to the familiar red “Pin it” button. Purchasers can use either Apple Pay or a credit card and payments will be handled by Stripe and PayPal-owned Braintree.
E-commerce pundits believe that Pinterest may be better suited to being an online shop window than its fellow social media giants Twitter and Facebook, because people uses Pinterest to gather up pictures of products that they particularly like (and therefore might want to buy).
