California State Assembly passes bill that would restrict drone usage

The California State Assembly has passed a bill that would prohibit drones from flying less than 350 feet above a private property without consent from the owner. Speaking in support of the bill, Assemblyman Mike Gatto: “If you drive on someone’s property with a car, you’re trespassing. If you’re looking on someone’s property to break in, you’re trespassing.

“It makes no sense that a drone should be able to look in your window and the operator should not be guilty of the same trespass.”

The bill, SB142, was authored by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson and passed the California State Assembly Floor on a 56-13 vote on Monday (24 August). It had previously passed through the California Senate on a 24-9 vote. The bill will now go back to the California Senate for final approval.
