Time to copy China on returns policies?

TrueShip, the provider of automated returns management system ReadyReturns, has argued that US e-tailers should follow China’s lead on e-commerce returns policies. In a statement issued on Wednesday (9 September) TrueShip said: “A new law for ecommerce product returns in China recently passed mandating that all e-retailers offer a seven-day, no-questions-asked grace period for product returns.

“While many U.S. stores have gotten onboard the hassle-free returns wagon, much to the delight of their existing as well as prospective customers, there are millions that have yet to do so.”

The law in question, added TrueShip, actually came into effect in 2014, “but has been largely ignored in U.S. media until just now”.

“In a world where China is consistently copying the US, when it comes to the ecommerce product returns policy, there’s a page we should be borrowing from them,” said Michael Lazar, Director of Online Marketing at TrueShip.
