Twitter announces partnerships with online shopping platforms

Twitter has announced that it is expanding its Buy Now service through partnerships with e-commerce websites including Bigcommerce, Demandware, and Shopify. In a notice posted on Twitter’s blog yesterday (30 September), Nathan Hubbard, Twitter’s VP of Commerce, said that the partnerships “will make it easier for retailers of any size to sell products, digital goods, or services directly within a Tweet via Buy Now.”

Hubbard added: “With Buy Now, businesses can drive more conversions and remove much of the friction in the mobile purchasing process. Today, as we begin rolling out to a wider group of platforms and partners, people will have even more opportunities to discover and purchase products from the brands they love on Twitter.”

Sources report that Twitter has also signed up some key direct deals with big retail brands.

Technology pundits see this move as a crucial stage in the company’s plans to build up its revenue stream beyond advertising and make a splash in the e-commerce pool.
