New pick and pack system speeds up online grocery orders

New pick and pack system speeds up online grocery orders

The Australian supermarket Coles has developed new pick and pack technology which will help to speed up deliveries for online shoppers, according to local sources. A report published by The Australian said that the in-house system, called “Rover”, directs fulfilment team members armed with tablets to the exact location of ordered items in the store, with an optimised route.

“What it means is that instead of staff traversing the whole store trying to find products, you have got them concentrating, picking bits of orders across the same area. Its much more efficient and also much more accurate,” Roger Sniezek, Coles digital and financial services director, was quoted as saying by The Australian.

The system has reportedly increased efficiency by up to 20% and helped to cut order errors.

The Australian said that Coles has now sold on the technology to NCR, which will making it available globally under the name “Power Pick”.
