Metro Group testing Starship delivery robots in Dusseldorf

Germany’s Metro Group has taken part in a trial using Starship Technologies’ delivery robot in a shop in Dusseldorf. According to a report published by Stern yesterday (7 June), a Starship robot has been used to help shoppers carry their purchases through the store, so they can concentrate on “hands free” shopping.

As previously reported, Starship believes its autonomous robots can be used to make home deliveries from neighbourhood stores for online shoppers.

The company has been trialling its robots in the London borough of Greenwich, to see how effectively the they can navigate through the streets and cope with other pavement/road users.

Keith Cornell, a senior advisor with Starship, gave an update on the progress of the technology at Triangle Management Services’ Mail & Express Delivery Show (MEDS), which took place in London on 19 May.
