Postmates reportedly raising new funding

US-based on-demand delivery specialist Postmates is reportedly in the throes of a new funding round. According to an article posted on TechCrunch yesterday (6 September), Postmates could raise at least $100m in the round led by Founders Fund.

If the reports about the funding round are correct, Postmates will probably be looking to extend its “crowdsourced” delivery model into new markets.

Delivering restaurant meals is one of Postmates’ core services.

Last year, Postmates CEO Bastian Lehmann disclosed that the company had ambitions for overseas expansion to London.

But if Postmates still wish to make its foray into this market, it should note that competition in the food delivery business in the UK capital has recently become even tougher. In June, UberEATS came to town and today (7 September) Amazon announced the UK launch of its Amazon Restaurants business.
