The UK government has published a draft plan to improve air quality in towns and cities by reducing nitrogen dioxide levels. The plan includes proposals to designed to reduce the impact of diesel vehicles, and also accelerate the move to “cleaner” transport and is now subject to public consultation and comment.

The consultation will run until 15 June and the intention – in line with the timetable directed by the Courts – is that the government should publish a final plan by 31 July. The UK is set to hold a general election on 8 June, so the final decisions will be taken by the incoming government.
