French telecoms authority could regulate La Poste

French industry minister Nicole Fontaine plans to introduce a bill to the Senate in June proposing the expansion of telecoms regulator ART’s jurisdiction to include postal services. If the change takes place, ART will become ARTP (‘Autorite de regulation des telecommunications et des postes’). Yesterday, Ms. Fontaine and finance minister Francis Mer were questioned by the Senate’s committee for economic affairs on the future of La Poste. Mr. Mer said the French national postal services group had a long way to go to reach its goal of catching up with Europe’s leading postal services providers in the next five years.
