bpost buys Bubble Post
bpost has agreed to buy the urban delivery specialist Bubble Post. Founded in Ghent in 2013, Bubble Post is currently operating in 16 cities in Belgium and the Netherlands. The company provides a “smart urban delivery” service which it describes thus: “Parcels and goods from various suppliers are efficiently combined in various routes with own proprietary software and are delivered from the outskirts of the city by eco-friendly vehicles, such as cargo bikes and refrigerator trucks fuelled by natural gas.”
The company currently employs about 100 people and generated a €3.6m turnover in 2016.
bpost said that addition of Bubble Post will strengthen and complement its own network and that of its subsidiary CityDepot, which is also a player in the “green urban delivery” field.
Bubble Post has also built up expertise in refrigerated and frozen transport and the delivery of prepared meals and food boxes.
In a statement sent to Post&Parcel today (8 August), bpost flagged up the importance of this specialism, adding that “bpost wants to be a leader in the fast-growing segment of deliveries of fresh products to both businesses and consumers”.
Koen Van Gerven, CEO of bpost, commented: “Our ambition is clear, we want to be a leading player for parcels in Belgium. We also have the ambition to significantly expand our activities within the sustainable and cold logistic chain in Belgium and the Netherlands. The acquisition of Bubble Post fits in perfectly with this strategy.”
