Yamato takes delivery of all-electric eCanter trucks

Mitsubishi Fuso, part of Daimler Trucks Asia, has delivered its first eCanter all-electric trucks to two Japanese customers, Yamato Transport and Seven-Eleven. The eCanter is the first all-electric light-duty truck in series-production by a global manufacturer. The truck made its worldwide debut in New York City in September, and is being leased initially in a small series-production in Japan, Europe and the US.

The FUSO eCanter is a light-duty truck that emits zero local emissions and zero engine noise. The electric truck has a GVW of 7.5 tons, carries 6 lithium-ion battery packs and offers a range of roughly 100km on a single charge. Charging takes around 1.5 hours with a DC quick-charging system, and 11 hours with a regular 200 V system.

The Canter Eco Hybrid has been in production since 2005. The first prototype of the all-electric light-duty truck was presented in 2010.

Yesterday (25 October) at the Tokyo Motor Show, Mitsubishi Fuso announced it will electrify its complete range of trucks and buses in upcoming years – and also unveiled its E-FUSO’s Vision ONE concept all-electric heavy-duty truck with a range of 350 kilometres.

***The forthcoming Winter edition of the Mail & Express Review will feature an in-depth look at new developments in electric vehicles, and their potential role in the post and parcel industry.
