Nightspeed independence leads to expansion

120 jobs are set being created by Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express after it gained its independence from Group 4.

Tipton-based Nightspeed is boosting its 1,200-strong workforce with a £250,000 investment to add three new UK depots.

The major expansion, which includes new sites at Plymouth, Southampton and Warrington, is a massive show of confidence in the business following its management buy-out for an undisclosed sum earlier this year.

The 20-year-old company, originally part of giant delivery firm Group 4 Security, has concentrated on transporting delicate, high-value items.

Customers have been stacked up in the pharmaceutical, retail, technology and communication sectors.

Now the go-it-alone business is refocusing its market position by bringing in a new identity and expanding both its international services and pounds 6 million fleet of 300 vehicles. Ian Pickford, managing director of Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express, said: ‘We have a position of some uniqueness in the express parcel delivery market, because of our emphasis on secure parcel delivery.

Forward ‘We have already won awards for our customer care and we will be driving forward with investment that will leave our competitors standing.’

In 2001 and 2002 the company was voted UK Secure Parcel Carrier of the Year by the Institute of Transport Management, and Parcel Carrier of the Year for 2003.
