TNT Express Services opens new UK midland centre

Delivery group TNT Express Services is creating up to 120 new jobs following a GBP1.5 million investment in a new call centre at Lount in Leicestershire The company, which claims to be the fastest and most reliable business-to-business express courier service in the UK, is gearing up to cope with rising numbers of calls from customers.

The new complex is working in tandem with an existing TNT call centre in Atherstone, Warwickshire, to meet growing demand from businesses wanting to use the company’s national and international services.

Nigel Barton, director of operations for TNT Express Services, said the company would be recruiting throughout 2004 with the intention of having all 120 vacancies filled by early 2005.

He said: ‘Since 1998 TNT has experienced a ten per cent annual growth in the volume of customer calls, with the Atherstone centre averaging between 27,000 and 30,000 calls each week. Lount and Atherstone will work together to form one virtual call centre to provide a seamless service to our customers.

‘Enhancing our call centre capabilities is essential to ensure we continue to offer the highest standards of customer service.’

The Lount facility will also act as a training base for call centre staff. TNT has obtained a GBP40,000 grant from the Leicestershire Learning Skills Council to create a centre of learning excellence.

Gary Burgess, national call centre manager for TNT, said: ‘We are also working closely with other Leicestershire agencies operating the Government’s New Deal programme. This helps us to fulfil our business requirements while addressing the employment needs of local people and providing a boost to the local economy.’
