Latvian State Postal Company plans Lvl 1 Mln revenue excess this year

Latvia’s state postal company Latvijas Pasts is planning revenues this year to exceed spending by just under 1 million lats (EUR 1.6 mln), reported the company’s marketing director.

Edmunds Bebriss stated that the postal company’s revenues this year are expected to continue growing, while revenue excess over spending this year will be down from the 1.73 million lats last year.

Deutsche Post mulls acquisitions in Europe, but cutbacks in Germany

Deutsche Post, the semi-privatised German postal authority, plans to continue expanding in Europe via acquisitions, but will nevertheless streamline its activities in Germany, the group’s chairman Klaus Zumwinkel said in a newspaper interview published Thursday.

“We want to build up a letter delivery network across the whole of Europe,” by buying up small players in countries where the national companies have a strong market position, Zumwinkel told the daily Die Welt.

UPS to leave Mexico if new legislation passes

The US package delivery company, UPS (United Parcel Service), is considering the possibility of leaving the Mexican market if the proposed new Federal Transport Law is passed later this year. The legislation will ban foreign companies from participating this sector. UPS is currently lobbying among legislators, attempting to demonstrate that the costs of the new law will be higher than any benefits.

Estonian Post accedes to Nordic express service network

Eesti Post (Estonian Post) has acceded to Pan Nordic Logistics, an express services network established by the Nordic countries’ postal firms. “The domestic ELS express service provided by Estonian Post has justified itself and has become the market leader operating in conditions of competition. By acceding to the Pan Nordic Logistics network we can provide the same service also in the Baltic and Nordic countries,” Estonian Post board chairman Alo Streimann said. According to plans, delivery of parcels and express mail in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania should be launched already as of April 1.
