The Directorate General of Posts at the Ministry of Transportation and Communications said it will be incorporated as Chunghwa Post Corp from Jan 1.
The Directorate General of Posts runs the island’s post offices and also owns Directorate General of Postal Remittances and Savings Banks (DGPRSB) that conducts operations such as deposits, loans and life insurance.

Birmingham-based Central Mailing services says it hopes to add to the 30 staff it now employs providing mailing services for all market sectors from advertising agencies and publishers to professional bodies and blue chip corporate companies.
The company has doubled its turnover in the last three years and now has sales of more than pounds 2 million a year.

Steve Simpson and Pepe Bascetta, who hold MBE’s master licence for Scotland and the north of England, believe they could keep many of the offices open by offering a wider range of services.
MBE is a specialist postal, communications and business services franchise, the world’s biggest non-food franchise.
It is a big player in the US, Canada and Italy but is barely known in the UK and Ireland where it has only 63 centres, including 10 in Scotland.
Simpson and Bascetta’s proposal could offer a lifeline to some of the 3000 sub-post offices targeted for closure across the UK. Royal Mail says it will close an undisclosed number of its 700 urban post offices in Scotland.

The new standard licences, which have a minimum life of seven years, will
come into operation when the first stage of postal competition opens on 1
January 2003.
Postcomm today added tracked business-to-business mail services to the
competitive postal market. Postal operators wishing to provide such services will be able to apply for a licence from Postcomm.
The standard postal licence which will enable competing companies to offer
business mail services in competition with Royal Mail, will come into operation
on 1 January 2003. The licences will cover bulk mail, consolidation services,
and enhanced document exchange services.
Postcomm today imposed an enforcement order on Royal Mail which requires it
to improve the way in which it processes two mail services for businesses –1st
Class Response Service and 1st Class Postage Paid Impression (PPI) – or face the
possibility of monetary penalties.
Today’s order follows an enforcement notice issued by Postcomm in October.
This was served after information from Royal Mail indicated that its 1st
Class Response Service and 1st Class PPI were likely to miss their performance targets in March 2003 — the end of the current financial year.
