AHS Aviation Handling Servics, Hamburg, is present at eleven inernational airports in Germany. Its service portfolio includes passenger handling, operations, ticketing and travel agency services. In future, the company also intends to act as a central sales agent for ground handling services and offer aircraft loading and unloading, cleaning and passenger and crew transport. The company is jointly owned by the airports of Hamburg (40%), Hannover (40%) and Bremen (20%). It currently employs about 600 throughout Germany.

DPD fulfils its promise

We are entering a new dimension with this product.>> Claude Béglé chairman of DPD’s supervisory board, told journalists in Hamburg when describing the process that has now reached a climax after months of detailed preparations. In the course of developing the new product, DPD gained a great deal of valuable experience with its Garan tiepaket 24. a next-day delivery service that it launched in its home market of Germany in the middle of 2000 as a high quality product with a high level of security.
DPD’s French parent group, La Poste. and the U.S-based integrator FedEx signed a cooperation agreement in summer 2001. As a result, DPD now has access to the international network (including air services) operated by Federal Express (FedEx).

FedEx consolidates World Trade Network FTN branch to handle expanded services

After two years of acquisitions and expanding services for international trade, FedEx Trade Networks Inc. announced Thursday it is reorganizing and renaming two of its business units.
The move by FTN, one of five operating companies of Memphis-based FedEx Corp., is geared toward pulling together several operations, some existing and others acquired through acquisitions, under one umbrella organization, company officials said.
The organizational shift will not change the number of employees in the business units, said Ed Clark, president and chief executive officer of FTN.

DIT Duisburg Intermodal GmbH

DIT Duisburg Intermodal GmbH was founded in Duisburg at the end of May. The terminal operator will start operations on October 1 this year and will be responsible for marketing and managing the eponymous terminal, which is situated in the Logport area of Duisburg-Rheinhausen. The awarding authority for the construction contract and investor is Hafen Duisburg-Rheinhausen GmbH, which launched a tender competition for the projects construction in November 2001. Partner in the operating company are the UK based P&O group and the Rhenus group with a stake of 37.5% each and Duisburger Hafen AG with 25%. The capacity of the first phase is 200,000 TEU.

Deutsche Post decision hits deals pipeline

The new issues pipeline was hit by news that Deutsche Post, the German mail operator, decided to postpone the roadshow for its debut benchmark bond deal worth ý1bn which it intended to place on the market in the coming weeks.
The roadshow was postponed after the European Commission on Wednesday confirmed it would have to pay back ý572m to the State of Berlin after it used the state aid to subsidise some of its lossmaking businesses.
Bankers now expect the deal, which carries an Aa3 rating by Moody’s Investors Service, to happen either in July or September.

UPS gets victory with House postal vote

Legislation that would let the U.S. Postal Service operate more like a company was defeated in a House committee after Democrats and Republicans balked at granting the power to set rates and sell bonds.
The House Government Reform Committee rejected the measure in a 20-5 vote that marked a victory for Atlanta-based United Parcel Service.
The world’s largest delivery company has lobbied for several years against legislation that would allow the postal agency to negotiate discounts with large-volume customers like magazine publishers.
