"39p to send letter in new post regime" say Communications Managers Association

The Communication Managers Association (CMA) section of Amicus, the union for 15,000 managers and professionals in Consignia, today (Monday) says that Postcomm’s competition proposals will be disastrous for Britain’s postal services.
In its response to the Postcomm proposals, the CMA fears that the introduction of competition and levying of VAT on postal services could lead to an increase in first class stamp price to 39p. The CMA also fears that the continuation of the universal service that currently exists with uniform pricing will be shattered by the proposals.

Downturn in logistics hits Tibbett & Britten

The sale of its automotive distribution business and a downturn in UK logistics pushed Tibbett & Britten into the red last year. The logistics group, which issued a profit warning in December, reported a pre-tax loss of GBP6.1m ($8.7) in the year to December 31, compared with a profit of GBP33.4m in the year earlier. The deficit was struck after a net exceptional charge of GBP29.5m.

Penauille shows solidity in a crisis

The slowdown in the air transport industry following the 11 September attacks has impacted on performance at Servisairs French parent company, Penauille Polyservices.
Profits fell to EUR15.9m from EUR21.4m in the previous year. But the company said: Growth in airport services remained positive in the fourth quarter, increasing by 1.1% over 2000 levels, emphasising the groups solidity when faced with crisis conditions in the market.

Japanese Government's Requirements for Post

The Ministry of Finance will require the Postal Public Corp. to pay for insurance that will fully guarantee postal savings deposits and postal life insurance accounts, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun learned Monday in its Tuesday morning edition. The ministry also plans to mandate that the new postal corporation, slated to begin operations in 2003, pay an amount equivalent to corporate tax to the national treasury.
