Australian Post Office goes digital

Looking for a digital signature? For authentication, try your local post office. On Monday, Esign Australia and Australia Post launched a Gatekeeper Accredited Registration Authority Service.

Through its KeyPost service, Australia Post now provides registration authority services on behalf of Esign and under Esign’s full Gatekeeper accreditation.

It’s just like applying for a passport, Australia Post says. To apply for a digital certificate, applicants can download and complete the forms available on eSign’s Web site, at http://gatekeeper.esign.com.au .

The lucrative logistics industry is being driven by multinational retailers’ need to reduce the cost of their supply chains.

Gone are the days when huge inventories of high-technology goods helped them benefit from economies of scale. Technology is developing with such speed that most stockpiles are obsolete before they hit the shelves.

With inventory costs responsible for 30 per cent to 40 per cent of the cost of today’s finished products, warehousing has become a dirty word.

TPG forecasts more international alliances

Dutch postal and logistics company TPG NV (TP) said Tuesday that it expects more international alliances if European Union governments further liberalize the E.U.’s EUR80 billion a year postal market. ‘We foresee international alliances such as with Singapore Post,’ TPG spokesman Rutger Goethart said. ‘There’s huge potential growth internationally.’

KLM Cargo, TPG unit TNT Express in European Freighter Alliance

AMSTERDAM (AFX) – KLM Royal Dutch Airlines NV and TPG NV unit TNT Express announced that from Oct 29, TNT Express will become the sole supplier of European airborne feeder services for KLM Cargo.

Operations will begin with shared utilisation of TNT Express freighter capacity on key routes to Helsinki, Dublin, Oporto and Madrid.
