Consignia relies on brand identity to deliver success

There can’t be many plcs less than a year old, that can boast brand
equity dating back hundreds of years.

Consignia, formerly the Post Office Group, became a publicly listed
company in March, inheriting the august brands of Royal Mail, the Post
Office and Parcelforce Worldwide.

But with its new independence comes a newly deregulated and competitive
market, and all, including Consignia, agree it’s going to be tough out
there. The Postal Services Act last year stripped the Post Office of
its monopoly on collecting and delivering post (though post costing
less than £1 is still covered). In June, three other postal operators
got the go-ahead from regulator PostComm to tackle Consignia’s
business.

Irish Postmasters Plan Industrial Action

The State’s 1,800 postmasters are to ballot on industrial action over the next 10 days and are also planning a march to the Dail on October 3rd. Their aim is to maximise pressure on TDs, and especially Government backbenchers, to have An Post’s Postpoint system withdrawn.

Austrian Österreichische Post AG is preparing for its partition into five independent companies

According to CEP News, “the Austrian Österreichische Post AG is preparing for its partition into five independent companies, possible a prelude to a (partial) takeover by another company group. Deutsche Post AG is considered a hot candidate, according to the daily ‘Die Presse.’ The five companies would deal with letters, courier-express-parcels, bulk mail, media post (i.e. newspaper distribution) and post office counters. The restructuring is to take place in three steps and to be completed by the beginning of 2003.”

DHL Predicts 15% Growth in Mexico

Despite the recent terrorist attacks against the United States, delivery and cargo company DHL predicted growth in sales of 15 percent in Mexico during the next 18 months. The company’s sales should grow by 15 percent by the end of 2002, over sales of 1.8 billion pesos at the end of 2000, said Vice President of Sales Octavio Dominguez Linage
