trans-o-flex has extended its Eurodis network with the addition of a new partner in Hungary.

Since 13th August, Road Parcel Logistics Services Kft., a Hungarian logistics company, has taken over the nationwide delivery of all trans-o-flex shipments in Hungary, including parcels with a weight of up to 40 kilogram as well as pallets. Special services, such as express deliveries or c.o.d. consignments, complete the company’s service range. Road Parcel operates a hub in Budapest and 10 additional depots.

In May 2007, Austrian Post, the majority shareholder of trans-o-flex, acquired 100 % of the shares in Road Parcel Logistics Kft and Merland Expressz Logistics Services Kft, a special service provider for general cargo and pallets. This year, both companies together will deliver more than 1 million shipments, generating sales amounting to EUR 7.5 million.

“Among the Hungarian KEP service providers, Road Parcel holds a top position and, given its expertise in the combi-freight business and transportation of hazardous goods as well as the application of the shipment concept and its high EDP competence, presents itself as an optimal partner to join our Eurodis network,” commented Klaus J. Heinz, Spokesman of the Management Board of trans-o-flex.

TNT launches comprehensive program to cut CO2 emissions

TNT’s Chief executive officer Peter Bakker launched TNT’s strategy to improve transparency on the company’s carbon footprint, to drastically reduce CO2 emissions from the company’s operations and to stimulate its 159,000 employees to do the same in their private lives. TNT’s program is called “Planet Me”.

Firstly, TNT is installing a certified system to measure, report and manage its CO2 emissions. Secondly, the company is implementing CO2 reduction initiatives in its eight most important operational areas: aviation, buildings, business travel, company cars, partnering with customers, operational fleet, procurement, and investments. Thirdly, the program stimulates employees to use less energy at home and on the road. Logistics can give environmental lead says Pall-Ex

Pall-Ex claims the haulage industry can set an example to other sectors in protecting the environment. Tony Mellor, senior commercial manager at the pallet network, says it is constantly looking for new ways to improve its environmental performance and has already implemented a range of positive steps. “Pall-Ex operates a fleet of forklift trucks powered by environmentally-friendly comp-ressed natural gas, reducing polluting emissions to an absolute minimum,” Mellor explains.

Mounted barcode scanners have recently been fitted to the entire forklift truck fleet, with a view to reduction of paper used for pallet processing checks through the hub. We also recycle wood from broken pallets. “Everyone in logistics could be looking at introducing these types of improvements, and the [haulage] industry could set an example to other sectors,” he states.

Meanwhile, the company recently celebrated handling its 12-millionth pallet since it started in 1996. Renata Jones, Pall-Ex spokeswoman, adds: “The company is incredibly proud to achieve such a phenomenal level of pallet throughput in our tenth year of business.”
