Swiss Post Office cuts

The Swiss Post Office says it is considering additional cost-cutting measures in a bid to remain competitive and avoid a massive deficit in the next few years.
The Post Office wants to renegotiate working conditions and salaries for its employees, spin off its express delivery service and merge the parcel division with its logistics unit. Management said more jobs would have to go at the postal service, in addition to the 800 already set to be lost by 2008.

Deutsche Post launches direct marketing centre

Deutsche Post, in co-operation with the German institut Fur Marketing, has founded the centre for interactive Marketing, in Munster, Germany.
The research centre will promote research and education in interactive marketing and media management, with particular emphasis on direct marketing.

DHL takes over distribution for Busak&Shamban

Busak&Shamban has commissioned DHL with the European distribution of its products. DHL, the fully-owned Deutsche Post World Net subsidiary, delivers from the Stuttgart distribution centre to marketing companies and customers of the manufacturer of top-grade sealing systems in Germany and throughout Europe.
“DHL offers us the complete range of logistics services and allows us to configure the shipping of our goods as effectively as possible,” says Marc Hellerich, Shipping Manager at Busak&Shamban, in describing the advantages of DHL as logistics partner.

DHL Signs Swisscom Phone Contract

Logistic company DHL Solutions, a unit of Deutsche Post AG (G.DPW), said Monday that it has signed a four-year contract with Swisscom AG’s (Z.SCM) fixed-line unit worth CHF2 million a year. DHL Solutions will handle the repair, exchange and disposal of around 700,000 Swisscom telephones a year.

DHL Plans Large Terminal at Incheon, S. Korea

DHL, the air express distribution company, “is planning to build a large-scale freight terminal at Incheon International Airport by the end of 2005 for use as its Northeast Asian logistics hub, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation said Tuesday. The freight terminal project, recently approved by the ministry-affiliated Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), will make DHL the first multinational company to build a regional logistics hub in South Korea.

Hogan hoping to deliver for DHL UK people

Deutsche Post World Net, the owners of DHL, have a new managing director of DHL UK. Irish-born John Hogan will be stepping into the new role immediately. The move follows Deutsche’s purchase of the remainder of Securicor Omega Holdings, allowing DHL UK to join DPWN’s European network. Mr Hogan, who joined Securicor Omega Express in 1987, will be responsible for DHL’s UK and Irish business.

TPG calls for Brussels probe over La Poste postal services

TPG, the Dutch mail and logistics group, has complained to the European Commission that the French government is distorting competition in the postal sector by favouring La Poste, the state-owned French company. TPG alleges that Paris has discriminated against new entrants in the French express delivery market by harassing them for their use of subcontractors while taking no similar action against La Poste. Under European Union rules, the Commission is duty-bound to look into such complaints. If it found that the French government had broken single-market rules or granted illegal state aid, it could order Paris to change its behaviour.
