TNT ready to up Thai services

TNT Thailand aims to expand its domestic network to apply same-day delivery services nationwide after achieving its five-year growth target two years ahead of schedule, said Winfried Kiesbueye, country general manager.

It currently offers same-day service for Greater Bangkok and next-day service upcountry. “Our services will be applied as the same-day service around the country by the middle of next year.”To facilitate that goal, TNT is in the process of establishing four more offices in Phuket, Nakhon Sawan, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani. It now has 11 offices and 14 agents countrywide.

FedEx plans direct flights to new Japan airport

FedEx Corp may operate direct flights between the US and the new international airport, off the coast of Aichi prefecture, in central Japan, when it opens in 2005.

FedEx aims to win business related to Expo 2005 Aichi, and meet growing demand for cargo transported via Japan to China, said Michael Ducker, executive vice-president in charge of international operations.

Nightspeed independence leads to expansion

120 jobs are set being created by Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express after it gained its independence from Group 4.

Tipton-based Nightspeed is boosting its 1,200-strong workforce with a £250,000 investment to add three new UK depots.

The major expansion, which includes new sites at Plymouth, Southampton and Warrington, is a massive show of confidence in the business following its management buy-out for an undisclosed sum earlier this year.

Deutsche Post Registers Pre-Tax Profits

Postbank, the banking subsidiary of Deutsche Post, Germany’s postal service operator, is expected to register an increase in pre-tax profits of around 25% to €500m this year. This forecast has been made by Klaus Zumwinkel, chairman of Deutsche Post. He has stressed that Postbank will continue to focus on retail banking and services for medium-sized businesses and will refrain from entering other market segments.

The German government and the state-owned Kreditanstalt fuer Wiederaufbau (KfW) have agreed on the conditions for the transfer of about 5.5 bln eur worth of government-owned shares in Deutsche Telekom AG and Deutsche Post World Net AG to KfW, according to German finance ministry officials.

Sweden Post expanding mail sorting terminal

Swedish construction group Skanska have said that its property unit Skanska Fastigheter Stockholm had signed a lease for a new package sorting terminal with the Swedish postal services company Posten.

The agreement was signed for a period of 15 years.

Russian Post offices united

All 42,000 Russian post offices will be united into state-owned Post of Russia by Jan 1, 2004.

The first stage of the restructuring allows for uniting the post offices’ property, finances, transport network and personnel. In 2005 Post of Russia will be transformed into an open joint-stock company.
