Hays disposes of German non-core business

Hays’ disposal strategy continues with the sale of its German automotive spare parts operations to a specially created new company, Night Plus.

Thomas Mencwel, who previously headed Hays’ multi-user parts business, established the new operation.

With 14 cross-docking centres throughout Germany, and annual revenues of around €34 million, the network provides a range of time-sensitive products to automotive manufacturers, delivering auto spares to dealerships and workshops in-night or before the start of the next working day.

Estonian Post joins electronic monitoring system

Eesti Post (Estonian Post) have joined the electronic monitoring system for quality control launched by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

“The tool of diagnostic control allows us to obtain precise, objective and detailed information about all the stages of a test parcel en route, for example from the moment of arrival in Estonia till delivery to the party taking part in the test,” Said Maire Lodi, director in charge of production at Eesti Post.

Eesti Post will first test the movement of letters between Estonia and Finland.

British Airways in Euro air link with DHL

DHL will operate a short-haul freighter service between London and key European destinations for British Airways World Cargo, BA announced Thursday. The daily 757 service, which begins Friday, will boost by 50 percent the number of containers and pallets that BA can fly from continental Europe to London, said BA spokesman James Healy. DHL previously operated an Airbus freighter nightly from its hub in Brussels to London’s Heathrow Airport. That freighter connected with DHL feeder flights around the continent.

DHL China to surpass Japan in two years

China will eclipse Japan in two years as the largest market in Asia for express mail giant DHL, the company said.

The company’s business in China is growing by about 40% each year, said John Mullen, chief executive officer in Asia.

In the next 12 months, it plans to add 1,000 more employees to its staff of 3,800 in express services in China, Mullen said. DHL’s shipping unit plans to expand its China workforce of 380 by 40%, he added.
