Swiss Post places 258 Mln Euro orders for letter sorting machines

Swiss Post placed 400 mln Swiss francs (USD340.8 mln/257.7 mln euro) orders with four companies for sorting machines and containers on March 8, 2005. Swiss Post will use the said equipment in the three new sorting centres and six subcentres, which it will start operating between 2006 and 2008 under the Reengineering Mailprocessing (REMA) project. Swiss Post will invest over 1.0 bln francs (USD852 mln/644 mln euro) in REMA by 2009. Swiss Post placed orders with Siemens Schweiz AG, Swiss Bern-based Gilgen AG, NEC Corporation and Swiss Aargau-based Georg Utz AG.

Belgian Post installs six lighted Postboxes in Brussels

Belgian postal services company De Post/La Poste has installed six postboxes, which are lighted until 2300 local time, it was reported on March 3, 2005.

The postboxes, located in Brussels, Belgium, are easily recognisable through the symbol of a man on blue background.

The company delivers prior-stamp items, posted until 2230 local time, on the next working day.

De Post/La Poste (www.post.be) has 37,920 full-time employees. It processes some 3.7 billion consignments annually.

US Deputy PMG Nolan to retire in May

After a 24-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, Deputy Postmaster General John M. Nolan will retire in May. The DPMG is a member of the Board of Governors and serves on its Capital Projects Committee. Nolan became DPMG in February 2000. He resumed his postal career after working 11 years as a director of a private-sector print and mail business.
