Why the medium to long-term is good to very good for Lufthansa

LUFTHANSA Cargo has come out with a confidenceboosting assessment of the medium- and long-term prospects for the global airfreight market.
Its views on the industry’s future are spelt out in a new, unique, worldwide study which the all-cargo airline conducted in cooperation with consulting firm MergeGlobal (MGI).
It predicts that the worldwide air cargo industry will experience a strong growth surge next year as it pulls out of the nosedive which started in 2000 and gathered pace last year.

National carrier Air France experienced further severe disruption on its US services.

DHL Air creates new jobs

Jobs have been created by leading air carrier DHL, which has just embarked on a multi-million pound revamp of its international air carrier business at East Midlands Airport. The company, which employs 1,200 people in the area, has spent £1.3 billion on 34 Boeing 757 aircraft to update and improve its parcel delivery service. The firm has also set up a new company, called DHL Air, to operate the aircraft in a move which has created about 100 jobs.

TNT edges towards global 747 network

TNT Airways is expecting to launch its first scheduled longhaul freighter services next month – part of a plan to develop a global 11747 freighter net work.
The green light from the South African authorities will see a three or four-times weekly B747 flying between TNT’s Liege hub and Johannesburg.
“We think approval is imminent, and we maybe able to launch next month,” said MD Niky Terzakis.
TNT has been flying once or twice a week to Johannesburg on a charter basis, through Atlas Air, since October, but has applied for the aircraft to be registered in Belgium and has been training its own crew on B747s
