FedEx to expand Thailand van fleet

Federal Express Corp plans to expand its Thai van fleet next year to cope with growing demand. The expansion will be supported by the export sector, which has sizeable potential for growth, said Clifton Chua, the global courier’s managing director for Thailand, Indochina and the Philippines. FedEx currently operates 41 vans and 44 motorcycles in Thailand, as well as 12 flights per day out of Bangkok International Airport.

DHL to spend millions on India market

DHL Worldwide Express plans to invest USD58 million over the next two-and-a-half years to beef up infrastructure in India.

Chris Callen, country manager for the company’s Indian unit, said the investment would be made in new express terminals at airports in Mumbai and Chennai, service centers and trucks. A new express gateway at Delhi airport is ready and will be operational shortly, he said. DHL, a unit of Deutsche Post World Net, says India represents one of the company’s four key markets, along with China, Japan and Australia.

BMW selects DHL for Korea auto hub

DHL Danzas Air & Ocean has been awarded a five-year contract to manage BMW’s vehicle distribution center in South Korea. DHL Danzas Air & Ocean Korea will operate integrated warehousing and distribution for BMW Korea, including storage and customs clearance, the company said.

Thailand Post may outsource bills

Businesses may soon be able to get their monthly bills delivered to customers more quickly by outsourcing their billing back-office operations to Thailand Post Co.The postal unit of the former Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) is considering several new service offerings, including e-messaging, which would connect companies such as telecoms and credit-card issuers with its computer network.

Service providers would forward their billing information online and Thailand Post would zap the data to the post office nearest to the billed party. The local post office would print out the bills and deliver them to the address.
