Plan to re-open 300 rural post offices in Pakistan

The Pakistan Postal Services has decided to reopen 300 post offices in the rural areas to facilitate the people, it was learnt on Thursday.
Earlier, the department had closed these post offices due to various reasons and had transferred the officials posted there to other areas.
It is expected that one hundred post offices will become operational this year and the department has started postings of officials in these post offices.

UPS Confident About Indonesian Market

The Atlanta-based courier United Parcel Service (UPS) plans to triple the freight capacity of its Indonesian services to 14 tons per night starting in June this year, indicating the company’s confidence in Indonesia’s trade prospects. UPS Indonesia announced on Wednesday that it had completed negotiations with authorities to operate a Boeing 737 express cargo jet six nights per week from Halim Perdanakusumah airport in Jakarta starting in June.

SingPost's courier system fully wireless

SINGAPORE Post has fully implemented homegrown NewsPage’s wireless Tracks solution in its island-wide courier package operations, making it one of the first postal agencies in the Asia-Pacific to deploy a wireless courier system.
Tracks allows information on the latest job status, collection and delivery to be updated into the backend system, said SingPost. The real-time information enables SingPost’s customers to trace their packages via the Internet, allowing SingPost to take prompt action to resolve problems.

Koizumi gives up on lifting legal ban on post privatization

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has given up on eliminating a legal clause banning the privatization of the new public corporation slated to take over the government-run postal services in 2003, posts minister Toranosuke Katayama said Tuesday.
Koizumi, a strong advocate of the privatization of postal services, recently informed the ministry that he now feels “it doesn’t matter if the clause exists or not,” Katayama said.
The law was passed by the Diet in June 1998 to reorganize the then 22 national government offices into 13 entities.
