Deutsche Post in talks with magazine trade

Deutsche Post is in talks to scoop a major delivery contract from under tile nose of Consignia, the company that runs the Royal Mail.
Officials from the German group are working to seal a long-term con tract with the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) to deliver up to 700 million magazines a year on behalf of the magazine trade budvs members. The contract is equivalent to about 4 percent of Consignia’s business.

DHL opens new Taiwan transhipment centre

DHL has opened a new transhipment centre at CKS Airport’s second cargo terminal, while Federal Express Corp has doubled its capacity at the airport and plans to increase its Taipei flights, the Economic Daily News quoted officials from the two companies as saying.
DHL public relations head Axel Gietz said the company invested about 2.5 mln usd in the new centre.

Japanese Government's Requirements for Post

The Ministry of Finance will require the Postal Public Corp. to pay for insurance that will fully guarantee postal savings deposits and postal life insurance accounts, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun learned Monday in its Tuesday morning edition. The ministry also plans to mandate that the new postal corporation, slated to begin operations in 2003, pay an amount equivalent to corporate tax to the national treasury.

Snail mail still tops in The Philippines

Despite the advent of modern technology and the proliferation of private letter couriers, the Philippine Postal Corp. (PPC) still controls up to 90% of the mail delivery business.
Frendy Gerona, PPC Southern Mindanao information officer, said there is no substitute to public courier service, since it covers the widest reach. “We can even deliver in the middle of Mt. Apo if there’s a community there,” he said, adding that some private courier services are still relying on the PPC in delivering the mails and packages of their clients to hinterland communities.
