Fedex unveils biggest express center in China

BEIJING, Oct 21, 2001 (Xinhua via COMTEX) — Federal Express Corp. (FedEx), the world’s largest express transportation company, recently unveiled its new 6,080 square-meter FedEx-DTW Express Center in China.

The new center, the largest and most advanced of its kind in China, is located in the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

The center features sorting and distribution systems that incorporate cutting-edge wireless technology designed to boost productivity, provide data accuracy and achieve real-time transmission.

With the installation of an integrated warehouse management system, the facility is able to handle 6,000 packages per hour, and it is also able to double the packages to 12,000 per hour if necessary.

FedEx says express delivery dispute with China Post resolved

BEIJING (AFX-ASIA) – The dispute over international mail delivery rights between state-run China Post on the one side and express delivery companies including Federal Express Corp, United Parcel Service Inc and DHL and their domestic agents on the other, has been resolved, David Cunningham, president FedEx’s Asia Pacific division told AFX-ASIA. FedEx held talks with China’s trade minister Shi Guangsheng on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Shanghai on Friday, Cunningham said. “There has been tremendous progress. MOFTEC (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation) has been a very strong proponent of dealing with the China Post issue and the issues we were having earlier this year have largely been resolved. “There have been no further impacts to our business since the summer and we can continue our business as we have always run it.” A row broke out between the two sides late last year when China Post, which has its own express mail service EMS, claimed that it had exclusive rights to mail delivery and that foreign express delivery companies and their local agents were breaking the law and operating illegally.

BEIJING, Oct 11 Asia Pulse – China’s postal sector has ended decades of loss, recording significant earnings for September. Liu Liqing, head of the State Post Bureau, said that the postal sector earned a profit of 160 million yuan (US$19.3 million) in September. This was a result of service-oriented reforms that the 500,000-employee strong postal sector has been undergoing since the beginning of the year.
