Auditor-General to scrutinise Transend

Parliament’s Finance and Expenditure Committee has unanimously recommended that the Auditor-General undertake a management review of New Zealand Post’s international postal consultancy, Transend.
The committee says that after reviewing Transend’s activities in Europe and South Africa it has a number of concerns and has received wide-ranging evidence suggesting Transend’s management systems need improvement.
The Committee has recommended the Auditor-General undertake an audit of Transend to ensure its policies and procedures are adequate.

Australia Post stamp price push

THE cost of a basic postage stamp may rise by 5 from next year and the Howard Government has not given up hope of broader postal system reforms.
Australia Post has applied to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) to increase the price of postage for standard letters from 45 to 50 from January 2003.
Australia Post group manager (letters) Gary Lee said the last price increase was 10 years ago and since then, the consumer price index had risen 26 per cent.

NZ Post paid SA Post Office 'millions'

Embattled State-owned enterprise New Zealand Post has admitted paying millions of dollars in penalties to the South African Post Office after its overseas venture went sour last year.
The admission came as top NZ Post executives were hauled before Parliament’s finance and expenditure select committee for a third time to answer claims the company misled MPs about the existence of a damning report into its dealings with the South African Post Office (Sapo).
