Small business has not made any complaints to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission about Australia Post following the introduction of reforms under the Postal Services Legislation Amendment Bill 2003.

When the bill was passed by parliament on June 14, then communications minister Daryl Williams said small business would gain from “better quality, more flexible postal services”.

Ranked number one postal service in the world, Post is committed to expanding its core delivery services for Australian businesses and households, whilst maintaining one of the lowest postal prices in the developed world.

Australia Post has lifted its game in ensuring standard letters arrive on time, according to a report by auditor KPMG.

In its annual review of Australia Post’s performance, KPMG found 95.3 per cent of letters were delivered on time or early during the first three months of 2004.

Liberalization of public services has led to a massive loss of Austrian jobs, said a study by the Workers Chamber (AK).

In the past ten years the public services, facing increased competition, had laid off tens of thousands of workers while at the same time the new private companies had only employed a few hundred.

Australia Post workers, members of the Communications Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU), will stop work for 24 hours in NSW, Victoria and Queensland on Thursday for mass meetings to discuss further industrial action on enterprise bargaining.

The action is part of the first national postal strike in almost 20 years.
