Dell ties Australia Post in supply chain

Dell, the global computer manufacturer, has announced a contract with Australia Post for a state of the art supply and delivery operation.

Post Logistics, a division of Australia Post, will distribute Dell’s latest products, printers and ink and toner cartridges to Australian customers.

Dell has chosen Australia to be the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to roll out the printer product line, first launched in the US market in March this year.

Australia Post Offices fear being stamped on

The Post Office Agents Association Limited has threatened to file suit against Australia Post if it pushes through with its buyback of 150 licensed post offices. Australia Post has expressed its intent to purchase the LPOs in four years and turn them into franchises for Post Shops. POAAL chairman Marie McGrath-Kerr opposed the plan, saying that Australia Post only wanted to take a share of the lucrative post office business in Sydney and Melbourne.

Australia Post shops to be franchised

A major overhaul of Australia Post’s branch network is set to take place, with the country’s mail and parcel service provider planning to sell an estimated 150 franchises to private operators for as much as $1m. The private companies will run the post offices in the country’s major cities, using Australia Post’s price schedules, stock and uniforms. The mail provider will repurchase several licensed post offices across Australia and replace them with the new franchises, which will have a similar structure to its existing “Post Shops”.

Cash vows to help to slow junkmail flow

Territorians wanting to cut the amount of junk mail stuck in their letter boxes have been given a helping hand.

Planet Ark will launch its Do Not Mail service, a multi-pronged strategy aimed at the companies distributing the mail taking unwilling Territorians from their lists.

The free service will allow people wanting to stop junkmail to have their address removed from the mailing lists of 500 companies who are members of the Australian Direct Marketing Association.

They can also affix a sticker reading “No Unaddressed Advertising Material” to letterboxes (it is Australia Post company policy not to post unaddressed advertising to letterboxes with such stickers).

Sweden Post mounts new foray into Australian market

Sweden Post has mounted a new foray into the Australian market by offering small businesses international postal services in a direct challenge to Australia Post’s market dominance.

Partial mail deregulation has enabled Posten’s local subsidiary Direct Link to consolidate its foothold in the Australian market via a new alliance with MBE Business Service Centres.
