French lingerie firm selects Chronopost Comfort

French high-quality underwear producer, Armor Lux, has selected Chronopost’s “comfort” product for its domestic and foreign express shipments, the La Poste express subsidiary said.

Chronopost has delivered about 5,000 express deliveries a year for the company since 2004, of which 50 pct are shipped into foreign countries. Through the partnership Armor Lux guarantees its customers the best possible performance for deliveries during its peak season at the beginning of the year.

Armor Lux, with some 2,500 business customers across France, has now optimised its transport budget by selecting “Chrono Comfort” product. This offer is devoted to those customers with at least 10 shipments per day within France and Monaco, or 100 international deliveries per month.

“We have the pressure of high seasonality since most of deliveries take place during February and March. Within this time 10 to 20 deliveries per day need to be made to Europe, whereas during the rest of the year 15 to 20 shipments are carried out per month,” said Michel Gueguen, Managing Director of Armor Lux. “Chronopost allows us better management by guaranteeing fast performance and a constantly high service quality.”

Chronopost delivers iPhones for France Télécom in high-security operation

La Poste’s French domestic express subsidiary Chronopost successfully contributed to the launch of Apple’s popular new iPhones in France by transporting 25,000 mobiles to 650 branches of France Telecom last week in a high-security operation.

Chronopost picked up the 25,000 iPhones from the French communications group and transported them under escort to its hub in Massy. There they were sorted under surveillance for onward distribution by a special team in 10 dedicated trucks accompanied by security guards to 55 regional Chronopost depots.

The high-value phones were then delivered to 650 local offices of France Telecom under special security arrangements. To ensure a smooth delivery, France Telecom provided security guards at the entrance of each office.

“Chronopost was able to meet our high expectations for this extremely sensitive delivery in terms of delivery times and shipments safety,” stated Claude Sanchez, responsible for transport procurement at France Telecom Supply Chain France.

“For this operation, Chronopost gathered together its entire know-how in express delivery, especially in applying security measures for the treatment of sensitive products. All of the Chronopost teams, which are used to this procedure, were mobilized for this project to respond to our customers’ needs,” added Andrè Valade, Chronopost security manager.

Chronopost extends French regional network

La Poste’s French domestic express subsidiary Chronopost has further extended its regional network under its ongoing network restructuring.

Chronopost said it has opened a new facility close to Nimes to strengthen its presence in the southern region of Languedoc-Roussillon. The facility will handle the distribution of some 1,200 parcels daily and 250 collections. This is its 16th opening in France this year, including the regional hub at Lyon-Corbas and a 2,600 sqm depot in Marseille.

Chronopost, which is restructuring its domestic network around five hubs and 68 local centres, has invested EUR 120 million in the network since 2005. Its new EUR 50 million, 13,000 sqm national hub at Chilly-Mazarin, south of Paris, due to open in early 2008, will handle about 60 pct of its domestic shipments.

Meanwhile, Exapaq, the small parcels carrier acquired by La Poste in early 2006, opened two new facilities strategically located for traffic to Germany and Italy earlier this year, giving its six hubs across France with total capacity to handle 260,000 packages per day.

The fully-automated sorting centre at Beaune in Burgundy, with maximum capacity of 12,000 packages per hour, serves as a connection point with Germany and the DPD network. The Saint-Rambert hub, in the Drome region close to the Italian border, acts as an entry portal for all packages coming from Italy and as an exit portal for packages headed for Italy and Spain. This mechanized sorting centre has a maximum processing capacity of 8,000 packages per hour.

Sodexi has developed a system for total electronic processing of air cargo shipments

In 2008, a new IT procedure will be introduced to replace the old paper based administration for exports. The system will be capable of running the entire transport process – from the original order through to delivery of goods.

The latest version of the Sodexi-designed system, entitled DELTA X, allows the full treatment of the process from handling, through automatic Customs clearance to final delivery.

Part of the Air France cargo network, Sodexi provides fast, efficient handling of express cargo at its computer-controlled airside facility at Paris CDG airport. Apart from traffic emanating from the Air France network, the company handles the Equation service for all Skyteam members, and handles many other airlines as well as FedEx, TNT, DHL, Chronopost and other specialist express forwarders.

Chronopost cuts Toulouse delivery emissions by 58 pct

Chronopost, La Poste’s express delivery operator, said it reduced greenhouse gas emissions in Toulouse by 58 pct in 2006 thanks to using environmentally-friendly delivery vehicles.

The express company said that 70 pct of its customers recognized the importance of using “clean” vehicles for environmental protection, and 54% of them were prepared to accept additional delays in deliveries for the sake of the environment.

The company’s “Espace de Livraison Urbaine” (ELU), a special collection and delivery operation for the southern French city, went into operation in 2005. From a 280 msq base close to Toulouse airport, Chronopost operates six morning and four afternoon delivery rounds. City-centre distribution is carried out with six environmentally-friendly vehicles, including three electrically-powered vans and two natural gas-operated vehicles.

Moreover, the reduction in distances traveled during delivery rounds had improved social conditions for workers, and was economically viable since savings in time and energy offset the additional investment, Chronopost noted. A similar scheme is in operation in Paris, the express company added.
