Post offices to offer electronic int'l transfers

The postal services of Colombia (Adpostal) and Ecuador (Correos del Ecuador) were scheduled to sign an agreement on Wednesday to permit electronic transfers of cash between the two countries, Colombia’s presidential website reported.
Once the agreement is signed, both countries will have 90 days to implement a system to allow the transfers. The agreement is backed by the Universal Postal Union and the Unión Postal de las Américas, España y Portugal, which are providing technical assistance.

TNT service extended

TNT has extended its Express Import service to 20 additional countries, including Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Morocco, Libya, Madagascar, Iraq and Sri Lanka. The service allows customers to arrange collections from a client in another country and pay for the delivery in their own currency. They can also send shipments to a receiver in another country and have them pay for the transaction in the local currency, removing any difficulties arising from exchange rate conversions and fluctuations.

DHL Colombia imports up 36.5 Pct Y/Y Q1 2005

The imports of DHL Colombia, the Colombian unit of the global carrier and package delivery company DHL Express, part of the German postal services operator Deutsche Post, grew 36.5 pct year-on-year for the first quarter of 2005, it was reported on April 22, 2005.

The volumes transported by DHL to Colombia grew 51.2 pct year-on-year for the quarter. The import services sales grew 37.05 pct year-on-year for the quarter.

DHL Colombia, has considerably strengthened its position on the Colombian market mainly due to its revised market strategy, the company’s Andres Vallejo, said.

The company has performed a number of promotion campaigns and has diversified its services in Colombia, Vallejo added.

Colombia DHL revenue op 21 pct Y/Y 2004

The sales of the Colombian unit of global carrier and package delivery company DHL Express increased 20.74 pct year-on-year in 2004, it was reported on January 24, 2005. Higher revenue was driven up by the growth of the cargo, transported by the company in 2004, which rose to 5.1 million kg in 2004 from 3.5 million kg in 2003. The parcels, transported by DHL Colombia unit, grew 15 pct year-on-year in 2004.

US Postal Service expands reach of money transfer service

Sure Money(R), the Postal Service’s international wire transfer service, also called Dinero Seguro(R), has expanded its reach to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Available to Mexico since 1996, Sure Money now provides customers with the ability to transfer money to nine additional countries. They are the Caribbean country of the Dominican Republic; and the Latin American countries of Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru. “Postal money orders have long been a favorite way for people to send money to friends and relatives internationally,” says Chief Marketing Officer Anita Bizzotto. “And Sure Money provides an electronic alternative that reduces the time it takes to receive the funds from days to minutes.”
