An Post may acquire UK mobile phone credit firm

An Post is in advanced negotiations to buy a British maker of machines which recharge pre-paid mobile phones with credit, it is understood.
The State-owned postal company, which is seeking to cut its staff by 1,140, is believed to be preparing to pay EUR6.49-EUR8.11 million ((pounds) 5.11-(pounds) 6.38 million) for e.Commercell. Discussions with e.Commercell’s owner, Caudwell Group, are expected to conclude soon.

Home Shopping Europe awards a 3 year contract to TDG

Home Shopping Europe (HSE), home shopping televsion channel, has awarded a three-year, multi-million pound contract to TDG to handle its c-fulfilment operations. The contract will create 45 new jobs dedicated to HSE logistics operations at TDG’s specialised c-fulfilment centre in Wrexham. Staff will be responsible for picking, inspection, packaging and despatch of goods for home delivery by a network of UK parcel carriers.

Global Crossing (NYSE: GX) has begun the implementation of a fully managed wide area network for the Royal Mail in the UK under a contract with Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems worth an estimated GBP23 million. Royal Mail is the nationwide postal service operated by holding company Consignia.

It showed a clear demand existed for the digital transmission of important pieces of mail, with PTT Post in a coordinating role.
