Royal PTT Post launches Privver

The trial with Privver, the digital mailbox of Royal PTT Post, has proved successful. It showed a clear demand existed for the digital transmission of important pieces of mail, with PTT Post in a coordinating role. This was confirmed by the companies that took part in the trial, KPN Telecom, Nuon (power company), Casema (cable TV company), SNS Bank and VGZ (medical insurance company). Consumers also said Privver met their expectations. The service got high scores for convenience, user friendliness and speed. Starting today, Royal PTT Post will gradually increase the group of consumers able to receive mail via Privver. More companies are going to send their mail digitally.

Privver is the digital mailbox of Royal PTT Post. Via the Internet consumers are able to receive in their own personal Privver boxes important pieces of mail like invoices and bank statements. The items are transmitted swiftly and securely and are easy to receive and archive. Recipients are able to pay bills online with a single mouse click. Links give them direct access to more details about the mail they have received digitally. It is possible to log on to Privver from anywhere in the world.

Market research
The trial took place between June and October 2001. A total of 6,000 active Internet users participated together with the five companies (KPN Telecom, Nuon, Casema, SNS Bank and VGZ). Market research was conducted among the consumers and companies. Almost all consumers said that Privver met their expectations and that they would continue to use the digital mailbox after the trial. The companies were similarly satisfied and will go on sending their mail digitally via Privver. Mr Harry Koorstra, Chairman of the Board of Management of Royal PTT Post, said:

"We are delighted with the results of the market research. The findings confirm that we are meeting a need that exists in the market. We are very optimistic about the future. Privver fits in perfectly with PTT Post's strategy".

Privver iAccept
The online market research conducted among consumers showed that they found it easy to receive their mail in their personal Privver box and liked the possibility to respond to it immediately online or otherwise. Another important advantage cited by participants was the possibility to pay a bill immediately by a single mouse click. Privver uses a unique method called iAccept for such transactions. It was developed by the Privver organisation. Consumers who want to pay a bill simply click the pay button. The system processes the transaction data and converts it to a collection file that is submitted electronically to the bank. Privver iAccept has proved to be a fast, simple and secure way for consumers to pay bills.

More effective communication
The research conducted among the five participating companies revealed that senders see mainly logistical and financial benefits to the new system. A sender is able to communicate more effectively with a specific target group. Contacts are faster, more direct and more systematic. This generates a greater attention value and, if desired, visitors can be referred to the sender’s website. Companies are able to contact the correct customer securely in trusted communication.

Max Kreleger, Managing Director of the Nuon Customer Care Centre, said: "We know from market research that our consumers rate Privver extremely highly. This offers us some interesting opportunities to strengthen our relations with our customers."

Developments
The results of the research show that the system has to be easy and simple to use for consumers. The research findings will be taken into account in the further development of the system. Consumers and companies alike will remain closely involved in future developments and expansions of Privver's functionalities. Special attention will be devoted to improving of ease of use, simplification of navigation and the further development and enlargement of the Privver iAccept payments system.
