Garmin International buys UPS subsidiary for US$38 million

Garmin International Inc., in its first major acquisition, said on Thursday that it had agreed to buy a subsidiary of United Parcel Service Inc. for $38 million in cash.

UPS Aviation Technologies Inc. designs and makes communication, navigation and surveillance products for the general aviation and air transport industries. The company, based in Salem, Ore., employs about 150 people, including 50 engineers.

DHL expands operations in Iraq

DHL, the world’s leading international air express company, business logistics solutions provider and air express pioneer in Malaysia, expanded its operations in Iraq to help assist in the country’s revival.

DHL is the first express and logistics company to operate in Iraq following the lifting of economic sanctions.

In a statement here, DHL said air express services were being offered through DHL Express, and heavy freight and logistics through DHL Danzas Air & Ocean.

TPG wins EUR 113 million NHS Logistics contract in UK

Mail, express and logistics company TPG N.V., has announced today that it has, through its TNT Logistics division, successfully won a five-year EUR 113 million contract to distribute healthcare supplies for the English National Health Service on behalf of the NHS Logistics Authority. TNT Logistics has worked in partnership with NHS Logistics for the last five years. The UK business unit of TNT Logistics will continue to operate a dedicated vehicle fleet from NHS Logistics’ seven distribution centres. The contract employs over 300 people and 200 vehicles are operated throughout England.

Pakistan Int'l Airlines launches courier service

Pakistan International Airlines [PIA] Tuesday entered another revenue generating sector with the formal launch of its own courier service SPEEDEX.

PIA offers yet another value added service for one window operation to its customer, targeting all segments of life by going into a natural expansion from the first air express in the industry to premium door to door courier service, said Ahmed Saeed, the airline chairman, while performing the launching of the new service at a ceremony at the City Reservation office.
