Pakistan Int'l Airlines launches courier service

Pakistan International Airlines [PIA] Tuesday entered another revenue generating sector with the formal launch of its own courier service SPEEDEX.

PIA offers yet another value added service for one window operation to its customer, targeting all segments of life by going into a natural expansion from the first air express in the industry to premium door to door courier service, said Ahmed Saeed, the airline chairman, while performing the launching of the new service at a ceremony at the City Reservation office.

Addressing a select gathering, Ahmed Saeed said Speedex is initially being launched in three major economic cities of the country, Karachi, Lahore and twin cities of Islamabad/Rawalpindi.

Simultaneously Speedex will go into an expansion phase by offering services to more cities in Pakistan, like Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Hyderabad, Sukkur Peshawar, Quetta, etc., he added.

Speedex, the PIA chairman said, can boast of the most modern and state-of-the-art technology. Using bar code and scanner technology and with the data connectivity on VPN, speedex offers a facility that no player in the market can match.

Speaking about highlights of technology, he informed the gathering that it includes:

A) Tracking of shipments throughout the process and at every transit check point.

B) Return acknowledgement with receiving details

C) Shipment status checking facility at any speedex outlet, meaning shipment booked at Karachi can be checked at Islamabad within seconds after booking.

The chairman declared that Speedex will soon expand to international horizons and provide services that no one currently offers.
