China Railway Express to Incorporate Railway Parcel Express

A source from China Railway Express Co., Ltd. said that it would complete incorporation with China Railway Parcel Express Co., Ltd. within this year.

The incorporated company will be still named China Railway Express Co., Ltd. with a registered capital of CNY 2 billion. China Railway Express wants to obtain revenues of CNY 6 billion in 2006.

China Railway Express and China Railway Parcel Express are transportation companies under the lead of the Ministry of Railways of China. China Railway Parcel Express is controlled by 15 shareholders and China Railway Foreign Service Corp. takes a 51percent stake and Harbin Railway Bureau, Shenyang Railway Bureau, Beijing Railway Bureau, and Guangzhou Railway Group Corp. hold the rest 49percent.

FedEx to raise express rates by 5.5 per cent

FedEx has announced a 5.5 per cent increase in its express shipping rates for next year to take account of record fuel prices and robust demand.

The bigger-than-average increase reflects continued strength in the package delivery services as global trade expands.

Analysts said United Parcel Service, the largest US parcel courier, is likely to follow with a similar rate rise in the next few weeks.

The increase will ease fears among investors that mounting competition between FedEx, UPS and their German rival DHL could weaken pricing.

For customers, however, the higher prices will add to upward pressure on supply chain costs, amid record fuel prices and transportation bottlenecks.

TNT signs contract for two more Boeing 737 aircraft

TNT Express today announced that it has signed a contract with GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) for two additional B737-300SF aircraft. With a payload of 16 tonnes, the aircraft will be introduced to the company’s highly successful European Air Network in August and December 2006 respectively and will replace sub-contracted aircraft. The introduction of the new aircraft will provide the company with increased capacity and will bring the total number of 737’s in the TNT fleet to nine.

Amtrak doubles up

Amtrak Express Parcels has started a two-man home delivery service for retailers, specialising in items such as plasma and LCD TVs, and other electrical goods.
Amtrak is the first express parcel carrier to offer the capability, eliminating the need for dedicated in-house or contractor fleets.

DHL expands operations in Brazil

DHL Express expanded its operations in Northeast and Centre-West of Brazil with the launch of new DHL service points there, it was reported on October 4, 2005.
The presence of DHL Express in these areas helped the company boost by 30 pct its turnover in Brazil. Besides the capital of the central-western state of Goias Goiania, the company started to offer its services also in the capitals of the central-western states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, namely Cuiaba and Campo Grande.
