FedEx rebrands Parcel Direct as FedEx SmartPost

FedEx Corporation today announced a new brand identity for recently acquired national parcel consolidator Parcel Direct – FedEx SmartPost(SM). The New Berlin, Wisconsin-based subsidiary of FedEx Ground, the small-package ground delivery unit of FedEx Corporation, will begin operating under the new brand immediately. “Rebranding Parcel Direct as FedEx SmartPost allows us to leverage the considerable power of the FedEx brand in the emerging parcel consolidator market,” said T. Michael Glenn, executive vice president, FedEx Corporation. “The name also aptly describes a smart, cost-effective way to deliver packages to residences using the delivery strengths of the United States Postal Service.” FedEx SmartPost operates a low-cost network specifically built to tender low-weight, less time-sensitive packages into the US Postal Service system, typically at the local post-office level, for final delivery to residences.

Brussels national airport remains as regional hub for DHL

The letter of 19 October signed by the three governments and the ‘Federal Compromise’ of 30 September regrettably do not allow DHL to create an intercontinental hub at Brussels National Airport. The political consensus that was needed for DHL to further grow at the airport in Belgium could not be found. Until 2008, the current business activities at Brussels National Airport will remain stable. The company will continue its assessment of the remaining options for expansion: Leipzig (Germany) and Vatry (France).

DHL regrets that despite the intensive involvement of the Federal Government and major efforts by DHL, no official nor adequate proposal has been sent to the company’s management. This will prevent DHL from implementing its long-term expansion plan at Brussels National Airport and from creating an intercontinental hub.

Interlink Express unveils ground-breaking products and services for small and medium businesses

Interlink Express and its 100 depots are completing a £20 million investment to make it the easiest carrier for small and medium businesses to deal with them. This is one of the most significant steps in the express parcels carrier’s 23-year history. The company will launch three new timed next-day deliveries based on the result of research with more than 8,000 customers. In addition, and again as a result of listening to its customers and franchisees, it has re-engineered the customer experience to make it as simple, easy and quick as possible. These developments recognise that small and medium businesses have little time, and while parcel distribution is of critical importance, it is not something they wish to specialise in and spend time managing. It is therefore essential that they select a partner who shares and understands this view. This twin-pronged approach of introducing new products and services, along with creating the easiest customer experience, forms an offer currently unrivalled in the marketplace and which Interlink Express is confident will not be matched.

GLS acquires further locations in Italy

Vicenza, Schio, Conegliano and Treviso: GLS acquired another four parcel businesses in Italy – this time from the franchise partner De Vicari. Just shortly before, GLS purchased the parcel businesses of the franchise partner Tavassi. These recent transactions are in line with GLS’ strategy of evolutionarily expanding and strengthening its own operations in Italy’s key regions.
“Including the most recent transaction, GLS’ own locations contribute 15 percent to GLS Italy’s total revenue”, explains Rico Back, CEO of General Logistics Systems B.V., Amsterdam. “In total, GLS has now direct access to customers at 13 locations in Italy. This proximity to the market provides a better understanding of the regional mentality and needs. It allows us to react even more flexibly to our customers’ requirements.”
