DHL Lithuania set to complete takeover of Danzas by November

The express and logistics company DHL International Lithuania hopes to complete the takeover of the freight transportation company Danzas by Nov. 1.

The merger is part of the strategy of Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN), which owns both companies, to place all of its worldwide express and logistics operations under the DHL brand. The financial value of the deal has not been disclosed.

FedEx adds central Japan service

FedEx Express will begin operating regular flights with its own aircraft into Central Japan International Airport when the facility opens in February 2005 as part of its overall plan to enhance services in Japan. The move will connect the Chubu region with 215 countries through FedEx’s global distribution network. It will be the third Japanese airport FedEx flies to, following Tokyo Narita International Airport and Kansai International Airport.

MBE business corporation launches Mail Boxes Etc. pilot center in Malaysia

Mail Boxes Etc (MBE), the world’s largest franchise of retail postal and business services, has officially launched its first pilot center.

MBE offers efficient mail and packaging services where clients get personal choice of packaging and a choice of four courier companies under one roof. The companies are Pos Malaysia, FedEx. UPS, City-Link Express and Nationwide Express.

“MBE Malaysia operates as a one-stop business service centre. We have plans to open 12 franchise outlets by the end of 2005,” said MBE Master Licensee and Managing Director Brian Chow.

DHL loss could cost USD250m a year

The departure of DHL Express from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport will cost the area more than USD250 million a year, according to a study released Tuesday by the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. Lured by Ohio incentives worth USD422 million, DHL on Friday chose Wilmington, Ohio, for its central hub.

Part of the economic blow will be softened when FedEx opens a distribution center on Mount Zion Road in the spring, the study said.
