Portugal postal traffic down 3.5 pct Y/Y Q2 2005

Portugal’s postal traffic exceeded 66 million shipments in the second quarter of 2005, down by 3.5 pct year-on-year, data from the local communications regulator Anacom showed on September 21, 2005. Compared to the first quarter of 2005, the country’s postal traffic grew by some 3.0 pct. Some five million of the total number of 66 million shipments in the three-month period April to June 2005 were express mail deliveries.

Portugal – PT, postal service contract to be examined

Portugal Telecom (PT) and CTT-Correios de Portugal postal service, have seen the Portuguese Economy Ministry ask the national competition watchdog to examine a no-bid contract between the two firms. The 10-year deal calls for PT to provide and manage telecoms services for the postal services. Financial terms of the contract have not been disclosed. The contract, awarded without bidding, has been questioned by PT rivals.

TPG Expands partnership with CTT Correios

Mail, Express and Logistics company TPG N.V. announced that through its division TNT Express, it has today signed a 5-year agreement with Postlog, the express division of CTT Correios (the Portuguese Post Office). The agreement will provide co-branded worldwide express delivery products via the PostLog sales organisation in Portugal.
