Association believes Deutsche Post can reduce postage for parcels

The German association for postal services and telecommunications (DVPT) estimates that Deutsche Post, the German national postal services provider, could reduce its parcel prices for private customers by at least 5 per cent. The association called for a consumer-friendly product combining the advantages of parcel postage with the lower prices offered for small packages. It currently costs at least 7 euros to send a parcel within Germany. A small package, on the other hand, costs just 4.30 euros, but is uninsured and cannot be tracked.

Deutsche Post to cut parcel delivery prices for private clients

Deutsche Post AG plans to cut its parcel delivery prices for private clients by an unspecified amount in order to compete more effectively with rivals, chief executive Klaus Zumwinkel told Handelsblatt. ‘We want to offer our private clients more attractive products at lower prices,’ Zumwinkel told the newspaper.
He did not specify by how much the German mail carrier’s prices would fall.

Deutsche Post sees steady revenues after German mail monopoly ends in 2007

Deutsche Post AG board member Hans-Dieter Petram told Focus magazine he expects revenue at its mail division to remain steady after it loses its monopoly status in Germany at the end of 2007. ‘We earn 2.0 bln eur at our domestic and foreign operations annually, and that isn’t going to change when the monopoly expires; we are the best mail company in the world,’ Petram told the newspaper.
Earlier, Deutsche Post said revenues would decline 10-20 pct after the monopoly expires. However, Petram stressed that Deutsche Post prefers to err on the side of caution, calling that forecast ‘a worst-case scenario.’

German Deutsche Post may enter Austrian mail market

Deutsche Post may enter the Austrian mail market when it is fully liberalised in 2009, company CEO Klaus Zumwinkel said on March 14, 2006. Deutsche Post, which had sought a minority stake in Austrian postal company Oesterreichische Post two year ago, would be interested in the mail business only in Vienna and its surroundings, Zumwinkel added. Deutsche Post has a workforce of 1,200 in Austria, where it generates 320 mln euro (USD384.9 mln) in revenue a year.
