German Deutsche Post cuts stake in GFT

Deutsche Post has reduced its stake in German IT and web services provider GFT Technologies AG from 12 percent to under 5 percent and sold its shares institutional investors. GFT is one of Deutsche Post’s key technology suppliers providing the post’s Stampit Internet postage offering. It is also supplying the Royal Mail’s new SmartStamp product.

Deutsche Post AG, the German postal service, has reduced its stake in GFT Technologies AG, the German internet service provider, from 12 per cent to under 5 per cent. Controversy over protection of Deutsche Post brand name

Deutsche Post, the German national postal service operator, has obtained protection for the trade mark ‘Post’ from the German patent office. Rival companies which continue to use the name ‘Post’ may face a cease and desist letter. The company has already sent its first cease and desist letters, to EP Europost, which belongs to the Dutch group TPG, and to Berlin-based Pin AG. However, the patent office has decided that the use of the brand name ‘TPG Post Deutschland’ by EP Europost is acceptable on the grounds that there is no danger of its being confused with the name ‘Post’.

Japan Post’s Takenaka talks postal privatisation with Deutsche Post chief

Japan’s economic and fiscal policy minister Heizo Takenaka met with Deutsche Post AG President and Chief Executive Officer Klaus Zumwinkel to discuss Germany’s experience in postal privatisation as Japan seeks to privatize its own postal service in 2007.

At a press conference after the meeting in Bonn, Takenaka said he asked Zumwinkel about how Germany balanced efficiency with uniform postal services nationwide.

Morgan Stanley elects Zumwinkel to Board of Directors

Morgan Stanley have announced that Dr. Klaus Zumwinkel, chairman of the board of management of Deutsche Post AG, has been elected to its board of directors. Sir Howard Davies, until last year the chairman and chief executive of the United Kingdom’s Financial Services Authority, has been nominated for election to the board at the 2004 annual stockholders meeting in April. Dr. Zumwinkel replaces Edward Brennan, who resigned from the Morgan Stanley board last year after he was named executive chairman of AMR Corp., parent company of American Airlines
