Emirates Post and Deutsche Post sign MOU for enhanced cooperation

Emirates Post and Deutsche Post have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore enhanced business cooperation between the two postal corporations, including expanded scope for the Emirates Post’s international mail transit hub located at Dubai International Airport.

In addition to expanding the scope of the Emirates Post mail transit hub, the two sides agreed to explore the possibilities of Emirates Post using Deutsche Post’s mail hub facilities based in Frankfurt.

Hays UK to sell bulk of operations as profits drop

Hays the UK business services group, on Tuesday said it was exiting all activities, apart from personnel, through a programme of disposals as it announced a 26 per cent fall in interim profits. The announcement sent shares in Hays up 8 per cent to 79p in early trade in London. The company, which also operates in the logistics, mail and express and call centre and information management businesses, said there “were insufficient linkages between the four divisions to outweigh the advantages of focusing the group on a single activity.”

Deutsche Post favourite for Austrian deal

Deutsche Post has emerged as the front-runner to acquire a majority stake in Austria’s post office in a move that would help the German postal and logistics supplier expand its planned pan-European mail network. Austrian officials said Deutsche Post stood a better chance than its Swedish, Swiss and French competitors to win the offer as it seemed keen to integrate the Austrian post office into its European growth plans. Common language was another factor, they said. The Austrian parliament is expected next week to give the formal go-ahead to privatise up to 75 per cent of the Austrian post office, ÖIAG.

No plans to increase postage charges at Deutsche Post

The management of Deutsche Post, the German postal service and logistics operator, has indicated that the group will reduce the number of its post offices to 12,000 within one to two years’ time.

Meanwhile, the company has ruled out further increases in postage charges for the current year. Postage prices are also unlikely to be increased next year, according to management.
