Competition on the Dutch mail market formalised

Today sees the official start of operations by Selekt Mail Nederland. At the beginning of July this year, shareholders Deutsche Post and Dutch publisher Wegener announced plans to found a joint venture.

They were merging the addressed mail services provided by both companies at that time. The competition authorities have now given their approval and Selekt Mail Nederland is now able to start fulfilling its ambitions.

Mayne gets $456m for transport arm

Mayne yesterday completed the shift to becoming a focused health company, selling off its transport arm for $456 million.

Lindsay Fox’s unlisted Linfox group, Paul Little’s listed Toll Holdings and Deutsche Post’s DHL divided the spoils between them.

The trade sale means an end to the demerger process to float the transport business under the brand name Loomis.

Deutsche Post acquire acceptance for Dutch mail venture

The European Commission approved German post office Deutsche Post World Net’s mail joint venture with Wegener NV to distribute regular mail in the Netherlands. The partially privatized German postal distributor hopes to become the second- largest player in the Dutch postal market after the former monopoly TPG NV.

Rumours boost Deutsche Post share

Deutsche Post AG has vehemently rejected rumours that its supervisory board may have decided in favour of the closure of around 1,000 branches and extensive job cuts, although the rumours had boosted the company’s share price by 7.26 per cent.
