Making plans now the skies are open

The woes that have beset the airline industry following the tragic events on 11 September have not spared the French air freight market.
National carrier Air France experienced further severe disruption on its US services.

On new year ‘s eve, its Paris/Washington flight was forced to make an emergency landing after the discovery of a suspicious substance onboard.

However, the airline has rebounded following the signing of the long sought after US Open Skies agreement.

DHLs new hub

Responsible for 100 million shipments a year and with an annual turnover in excess of five billion euros, DHL is a major player in the international express delivery market. The company has recently completed a £35 million investrnent in a new Air Express Hub at East Midlands Airport. One of 35 such hubs around the world, and the biggest in the UK, the new facility is designed for throughputs of up to 24,000 parcels and 18,000 docunients (‘flyers’) every hour.

DHL Argentina's sales increase

The courier company DHL will not rise the prices of its services and predicts to grow between 3-5% in Argentina this year. In 2001, the company increased by 12% its sales, with 50 branches in the provinces in the country and invested Pesos $11mil in a new plant in Buenos Aires city. This is the largest courier plant in Latin America.

Belgiums logistics sector still predicts modest growth

Logistics companies in Belgium are forecasting continued growth, despite flat conditions elsewhere in freight industry.
The biggest Belgian multinational logistics company, ABX Logistics, has recently won a contract with publishing organisation Boek.be which will involve distribution in Belgium. “We have won new international customers in the past year in areas such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals and textiles, which all have Belgian operations,” says a company spokesman. Another speciality is the tailor-made packages the company offers to the white and brown goods industries.

Deutsche Post to take 72% DHL stake early 2002

Deutsche Post is expect.ed to raise its stake in DHL Worldwide Express to 72 percent early in 2002, DIlL Iiiternational (UK) Ltd managing director David Coles said.
Deutsche Post has a 46.3 percent shareholding, which will rise to 51 percent and then to 72 percent over quickly next year, he told journalists.
