Good results for the EMS Cooperative

At its extraordinary General Assembly held during the UPU Congress, the EMS Cooperative announced on Monday 4th August a set of very positive results: volumes rose by 23 pct between 2004 and 2006; 88 pct of items were delivered on time; and the EMS Cooperative now boasts a membership of 149. The EMS Cooperative was created in 1998 to develop and strengthen the EMS service.

A succession of countries were awarded certificates in recognition of their efforts to meet the main EMS standards. To ensure high quality service, independent consultants analyze the performance of the various operators each year.

For 2007, 13 countries received gold, silver or bronze awards for the excellence of their EMS services (deliveries, tracking of items and customer service). Azerbaijan, Hong Kong (China), Japan, the Republic of Korea and Singapore took gold; the Czech Republic, Great Britain, New Zealand, Sweden and the United States were awarded silver; and Australia, Brazil and Canada received bronze awards.

Hungary, Russia and Spain also received awards for exceptional customer service.

EMS is a high quality, competitive, affordable international express postal service for sending documents and goods the world over. In most countries EMS is the only operator offering universal access to international express services for private customers and small and medium enterprises.

China Post EMS Same-day Delivery between Beijing and Tianjin Launched

China Post Group announced that from August 1, 2008, the EMS Same-day Delivery Service will be introduced between the designated regions of Beijing and Tianjin.

The Service currently can only be used for the document items. Any document EMS posted before 11 a.m. will be delivered before 6 p.m. the same day. Door pick-up and posting at designated post offices can be provided for customers who want to use the Service. The price for each document EMS is RMB 20 for 500 grams with RMB 6 for any additional 500 grams. Besides, a special service charge of RMB 5 will be applied to each item for the guarantee of quality service.

With the utilization of Beijing-Tianjin Express Train, China Post EMS is dedicated to offer customers the premium and reliable express service between Beijing and Tianjin.

Express delivery industry to realise standardised operation

China’s express delivery industry has made considerable progress after 20 years of development since it was initiated in 1987. Statistics show there has been 2,422 legal enterprises engaged in express delivery service, with 227,000 employees by the end of 2006; a total of 1.06 billion pieces have been sent via express delivery, generating a total of revenue of RMB30 billion, which are 693 times and 375 times respectively the figures in 1987.

An overview of the development of express delivery industry shows that no matter the major industry players, staff or the total service amount, all of them have kept an annual growth of 20 percent. Express delivery industry sees rapid growth in scale, and the demand is very vast.

Furthermore, the express delivery industry also presents huge development potential and broad market prospect. The market share of express delivery in the economically developed eastern China has accounted above 2/3 of that national total. There are also broad markets on the secondary markets and in middle and western China

Express delivery companies have improved their service capabilities greatly. The housing construction area, production area, and the number of outlets owned by the express delivery companies have increased greatly, with a total of 50,000 sets of transport facilities. Moreover, the investment for computer and mobile phone has also significantly increased, attaining 53.1 percent and 119.8 percent respectively. Therefore, the informatisation processing level from mail collecting and sorting out, to mail delivery and inquiry service have been upgraded effectively, giving strong material support for the improvement of service capabilities of express delivery industry.

International express mail growth spurred by Kahala Posts Group

An international alliance of eight national postal administrations is marking the two-year anniversary of its date-certain, guaranteed international Express Mail Service (EMS) by expanding to new member countries and paving the way to launch new products.

Kahala Posts Group (KPG), a collaborative network of the postal administrations of Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States, accounts for almost half of the world’s total EMS traffic. With delivery to more than 261 million addresses, 8 billion post code combinations and service available at more than 142,000 retail locations, KPG provides a powerful network and consistently high delivery standards.

At its annual meeting today in San Francisco, KPG reported growth of more than 40 percent in volume for its date-certain, guaranteed EMS service since inception of the alliance.

KPG members integrated their operational and information technology networks to provide date-certain international EMS beginning in July 2005. Backed by a guarantee and reliability on par with private couriers, the product has helped national posts regain share in the international package marketplace, and has proven especially popular with small to medium business sector customers.
